Charging motorola phones with a solar cell
by Verónica & Sebastián
Since we buy our Motrorola Milestone and Motorola Defy phones we wanted to charge them using our solar charger. The problem was that the Motorola cable somehow forbids this. According to the USB standard, most USB chargers should charge every USB phone, but Motorola managed to change this.
Our solar-powered phone charger did not charge our Motorola phones until now. We though that perhaps Motorola was getting the voltage from the DATA+ connector instead of the Vcc connector.
So we manually connect the connectors in the USB charger, and Voila! Now we can charge our Motorola phones with our solar charger!!

In picture 4 we can see how we propose to fix the problem. We change the cable from the charger, not the phone cable.
By the way, we had to test several connections before getting the right one. DO NOT ASK US WHY CONNECTING THE DATA+ AND DATA- CONNECTORS WORKS! But when we try other options, it did not work...
